Shields – Bury Me
After a 5 year Hiatus, Shields returned in the summer of 2023, set to release a brand new song “Bury Me”.
„The whole subject matter for the song ‘Bury Me’ stems from the phrase ‘nocturnal pollution’ - a disrupted form of sleep that is informed by internal and external forces alike," comments Sam Kubrick. "The songs lyrics were written from the perspective of a person who is suffering from experiences such as night terrors and insomnia, and as a result dreads the torture of going to bed every night. When I first started the music for ‘Bury Me‘, I had one pure intention which was to write the most quintessentially Shields track I possibly could. It ended up becoming heavily influence by our previous single “Jordan” but as if it was written for our first album ‘Life In Exile‘.“
lyrics
All alone in my head again. Can’t even feel my feet as I step off the roof.
Seven hells beneath my bed, nocturnal pollution is eating up my room.
Seven hells beneath my bed,
Nocturnal pollution is eating up my room.
Intertwined in a bird's nest of nightmares.
Delicately unraveling myself from the trauma I’ve found myself in.
There is pain sewn into the fibers of my bedsheets.
I just can’t win.
So bury me into the dark cos I’ll never sleep again.
Just bury me so I can’t wake I know that I’ll just stay
MISERABLE
So bury me into the dark cos I’ll never sleep again.
Never sleep again.
Just bury me so I can’t wake I know that I’ll just stay
Miserable.
My mind falls back into the comfort of delusion.
Peel my eyelids open so I can never rest.
My neural pathways filled up with fear.
Bury me
In the darkness of the martyr.
I said bury me.
In the darkness of the martyr.
Bury me into the dark.
All alone in my head again. Can’t even feel my feet as I step off the roof.
Seven hells beneath my bed, nocturnal pollution is eating up my room.
So bury me into the dark cos I’ll never sleep again.
Never sleep again.
Just bury me so I can’t wake I know that I’ll just stay
MISERABLE
Bury me.
I won’t ever sleep again.

AMAZING album from start to finish. An emotional journey that grabs you by the nape of the neck and never lets go. I happened upon this album from nowhere, and I'm so thankful that I was brought into their universe. A mixture of several different musical genres - early 1990s alt rock, pop, funk, intricate prog rock, black metal, folk... the result is nothing short of breathtaking. A superb album by a wonderfully creative band. Thank you for existing. wymanchoyphotography666
A second EP from this trio, who do not feature guitar in their instrumentation. Despite that, it is a very satisfying progressive rock outfit, which veers into pop territory at times. The layered vocals are the pivot from which the drummer and both keyboardists turn. There is some violin, viola, and cello, adding to the density of the production, which maintains a delicacy, even in the heaviest parts Nickie Harte Kelly
One of my top albums from 2023, "Ultraviolet" unloads banger after banger from start to finish, resonating with a passion and honesty that echoes CJ-era Dream State for me. Top-shelf. themeegs
